Elementary School Gym Renovation: A Look Inside Ronald McNair’s Transformation

When Ronald McNair Elementary’s gym needed a major refresh, Florence School District 3 turned to Scott Equipment & Surfacing to make it happen, and we delivered. From worn-out bleachers to a gym floor showing decades of wear, this elementary school gym renovation was ready for a serious upgrade. Together with FW Architects, Gilbert Construction, and district leaders, we transformed the space into a modern, high-performance indoor athletic facility that students, staff, and the Lake City community can be proud of.

DESIGN + PLANNING

The goal was clear: breathe new life into a decades-old gym without starting from scratch. Working alongside FW Architects, Gilbert Construction, and the school district, our team developed a plan that balanced smart restoration with modern athletic facility upgrades.

The existing school gym flooring had been in use for over 30 years and had accumulated multiple layers of finish. We began by repairing damaged boards and sanding the surface down to a clean slate. Then came the custom gym floor logo and stain work, an upgrade that blended school spirit with craftsmanship. At the same time, we prepared for the full removal of outdated bleachers and planned for a safer, more functional gym seating system that would serve students and spectators for years to come.

CONSTRUCTION + INSTALLATION

Executed over a three-month timeline, the project stayed on schedule and within budget. We installed new Interkal bleachers and used Connor Flooring products, along with Poloplaz stain, paint, and finishes, to ensure a high-performance gym floor built to last.

With factory-certified sports flooring installers and trusted materials, every detail was handled with care and precision, delivering the durability, safety, and performance Scott Equipment & Surfacing is known for.

IMPACT + RESULTS

Completed in April, this athletic facility renovation is already making a meaningful impact. The updated gym now serves as a central hub for school activities, from PE classes to assemblies and athletic events.

The transformation is both functional and aesthetic. What once felt outdated is now a space the school is proud of. The result aligned perfectly with the client’s vision, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
