New Energy at Riley Park After Upgrades to Historic Sumter Ballpark

Scott Equipment & Surfacing (SES) was honored to partner with the City of Sumter to modernize Riley Park, a cherished baseball stadium deep-rooted in South Carolina’s sports history. With teams like USC Sumter, Morris College, and the Sumter P-15s calling this venue home, the park deserved a high-performance upgrade. One that preserved its legacy while equipping it for the future of baseball.

DESIGN + PLANNING

The project began with removing an outdated scoreboard and sound system to create a fully integrated, cutting-edge solution. Our scope included a new digital scoreboard, state-of-the-art sound system, pitch clocks, radar gun with MPH display, instant replay capabilities, and live-stream cameras. Custom graphics were also incorporated to reflect the park’s identity.

Riley Park’s age presented planning challenges, specifically, outdated infrastructure like old conduits and limited power access. Our team navigated these complexities precisely and carefully, ensuring a seamless upgrade despite the park’s historical constraints.

CONSTRUCTION + INSTALLATION

Work began in October with a firm deadline of February to align with the upcoming season. Our factory-certified team worked diligently to meet this timeline, with the lead superintendent onsite daily to maintain quality control and ensure every component was installed to spec.

Key innovations included integrating SES’s software into concourse TV displays, offering fans real-time engagement beyond the diamond. From pitch clocks to streaming technology, every element was designed for performance, reliability, and fan experience.

IMPACT + RESULTS

The upgrades were completed on time and under budget and have been met with enthusiastic praise from the City of Sumter and all user organizations. The final installation perfectly aligned with the vision outlined in our custom renderings, offering a modernized experience while honoring the park’s legacy.

Riley Park is now equipped to host collegiate games, American Legion matchups, and regional prospect tournaments with professional-grade amenities, making it a standout facility in South Carolina.
